I upgraded to this one from a KuulAire PACKA53 500 CFM Portable Evaporative Cooling Unit with 325 Square Foot Cooling Capacity, Silver, which worked well, but it wasn't really designed for cooling my whole living room / entry / kitchen area. When I received this unit I was generally impressed with the design. The louvers are easy to move and the controls are easy to understand. There is no remote to lose and I don't feel it is necessary. The fill location is on the top, and is a nice wide funnel shaped area.

The water level indicator is too far inside the tank and is very difficult to see without being in bright light or having a flashlight. The plastic casing is molded well but when I took off the back to investigate an issue, I noticed the screws were just screwed directly into the soft plastic. If you remove the media regularly to change or replace, your screw holes will get stripped quickly. I might try to reinforce that area at some point. The casters are very small and don't handle bumps well, but they do have locks which was a nice touch.I bought it during the off season for a substantial discount, but the unit I received was defective. The fan worked great but the pump does not come on at all. I contacted Honeywell and left a message, but they have yet to return my call. I'll call again tomorrow. I'm wondering now how many people have tried this and decided that evaporative coolers don't work when they just have a defective unit. Normally I would just exchange this since it was DOA, but they don't have any more in stock so I'm going to try to get it repaired.
