KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With the temperatures rising this week, Project Elder Cool is installing air conditioning units just in time. The Bishop Sullivan Center is one of the largest providers of assistance for needy families. It has a food pantry, job training and for another hot summer, help keeping homes cool with Project Elder Cool.  It was an idea that began in 1980 when there were 150 heat deaths reported that year. Since then, Project Elder Cool has installed more than 4,000 air conditioning units for the elderly and the needy. Project Elder Cool will also deposit $100 to help pay for the cost of running the AC. For the people who qualify, volunteers from the Bishop Sullivan Center will install the unit. The Bishop Sullivan Center is named after Catholic Bishop John Sullivan who had a special connection with helping the poor. The Bishop Sullivan Center has been helping people since 1972.
