Early Retirement: Earn Rewards for Upgrading Clunky RTUs We’re excited to announce the addition of new incentives for contractors participating in HVAC Optimization. For a limited time, you can earn high-value rebates for the immediate replacement of qualifying old — but still operational — HVAC units at the facilities of SCE commercial customers. Think of it as “Cash for HVAC Clunkers.” As HVAC units age, they degrade and operate less efficiently. Early Retirement can help you lower your customers’ electric bills, provide them with newer and quieter units, and give you an opportunity to concurrently enroll the new unit in an HVAC Optimization Maintenance Agreement. Below find a list of Early Retirement eligibility requirements: Eligible Equipment Types: Air- and water-cooled package and split unitary AC and HP systems of all sizes are eligible (chillers are not eligible). Old Equipment Condition: Existing equipment must be installed and operational.
New Equipment Efficiency: Replaced with a new high-efficiency unit that meets minimum EER, IEER and or SEER requirements. Non-functioning units, non-operational units, and emergency replacements are not eligible. There is no additional training required to participate — if you’re currently participating in HVAC Optimization, you’re ready to participate in Early Retirement. You can find fact sheets for both you and your customers in the Contractor Portal. or call (562) 200‑7020 x 651. Get Educated on Proposition 39 We’ve been talking recently about Proposition 39, a California bill approved in 2012 and currently being implemented, that provides $550 million annually through 2018 to help California schools increase the energy efficiency of their facilities and expand clean energy generation. You can read more about Proposition 39 and get valuable resources at the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Proposition 39 webpage. Since increasing energy efficiency is one of the primary goals of HVAC Optimization and Standard 180, this is an excellent opportunity for our participating contractors to partner with schools in their area.
Here are some resources to help contractors get familiar with the requirements of Proposition 39 and how the benefits of HVAC optimization align with the specific needs of schools. California Energy Commission Webinar The CEC is hosting a free webinar to give schools and the general public an overview of Proposition 39 as well as a more comprehensive detail about the process and required materials, including the Energy Expenditure Plan Handbook, pertinent forms, energy savings calculators, and project applications. Proposition 39 projects must meet very specific requirements for return on investment. Contractors who attend the webinar will be much more fluent in these requirements and how to talk about them with their customers.
