Students must complete these Industry Competency Exams (ICE): Residential Air Conditioning and Heating, Light Commercial Air Conditioning and Heating, and Commercial Refrigeration. FRCC’s HVAC/R Program is nationally accredited by PAHRA, the Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation, which is the only accreditation supported by major industry associations. This certificate provides training in the diagnosis, service and repair of commercial icemakers, walk-in coolers and freezers, and self-contained refrigeration units. Commercial Refrigeration certificate: See required courses. This certificate teaches basic skills in HVAC/R including brazing/soldering, copper tubing fabrication, EPA certification and basic electrical skills.
To become industry certified by passing the Industry Competency Exam (ICE), students are advised to pursue one of the additional HVAC/R certificates or A.A.S. degree listed here. The HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) field is dynamic and growing, and the increasing sophistication of systems has resulted in employers requiring job candidates to have formal training and certification. The UNOH College of Applied Technologies' HVAC/R Department prepares students for an entry-level job in the challenging HVAC/R field. In the UNOH College of Applied Technologies' HVAC/R Department, students are trained in the many different aspects of the HVAC field while utilizing the latest technology in furnaces, air conditioners, and commercial refrigeration units. Most of the training in the HVAC program is hands-on, from both training aids and our Simutech computer-generated simulation programs. In addition to earning diploma or associate degrees in HVAC/R Technology, students can gain certifications in section 608 and 609 of the EPA Refrigerant Handling Requirements. Industry competency exams of the Air Conditioning Heating Refrigeration Institute are also available. This gives our graduates the certifications employers are looking for.
