What Do I Have to Do to Get Certified? Earning your HVAC certification requires passing at least one in-depth examination testing your skills and knowledge of the heat, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration concepts covered in certificate programs.

In addition to a passing score on the core exam, HVAC Excellence also requires two years of work experience in an HVAC-related position. NATE certification carries no work or education requirements, but recommends 1-5 years of experience, depending on the level of certification you're seeking, before taking the exam. Once you meet any applicable prerequisites and pass the necessary exams, you're officially certified as an HVAC-R technician specializing in your focus area of choice. Certifications are good for up to five years. When they expire, you can generally renew them by earning continuing education credits from courses in your area of expertise. How Do Online Programs Work? Distance learning programs allow you to complete all course requirements and earn your HVAC certificate using nothing more than an Internet-connected computer; no visits to your school's campus are required. Program details and courses Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology Diploma in Applied Science This program provides students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to install and service all types of residential heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including heat pumps, gas, oil, and electric heating equipment, commercial/industrial air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems. Completion of this Diploma program prepares the student to continue their training for an Associate Degree in Applied Science, a level required by many companies.
